Robert Mitchum and William Holden--what more do you need?
While "Rachel and the Stranger" is a fairly predictable movie, it brings William Holden and Robert Mitchum together to vie for the same woman--the beautiful and talented Loretta Young, the noble woman who must face adversity with grace and guts. Without the incredible talents of these three actors, the movie probably wouldn't be anywhere near as delicious. The chemistry among the three comes through without overtly being thrown in the viewer's face, and makes for an enjoyable film to watch for lighthearted comedy/drama/romance. The fact that it is a period piece lets us see a little of how life was lived way back at the early part of history out west.

Bogey Being Bad is Always Great
0 von 1 finden das hilfreich If you are searching for a tightly wound mystery movie for a rainy afternoon, then "The Two Mrs. Carrolls" is the one for you. Humphrey Bogart woos and wins Barbara Stanwyck, all the while leading us down a path of intrigue with Alexis Smith as the "other woman" who just happens to be a little richer than Stanwyck. I thoroughly enjoyed this jewel and saw another side to Bogey's talents as he increased the suspense with his refusing to show the painting until Stanwyck stumbles upon it. The climax of the picture will keep you wondering just who is in on the crime until the end. Once you see the picture you won't need to watch it again--but you probably will want to, just to see where you missed the clues.

An Orson Welles' Classic Gem
I watched "Tomorrow is Forever" many decades ago with my mother, and both of us were in tears at the ending. We watched it again recently, and we both had the same reaction. Orson Welles powerfully portrays the strange scientist who remembers the horrors of World War I while gently protecting a very young Natalie Wood who calls him Father after her own parents were shot and killed in front of her. The action and plot remain solid, and Claudette Colbert gives a stellar performance as the suspicious wife who loved and lost her first husband to war, thus refusing to relinquish her oldest son (Richard Long) to WWII. George Brent, always the gentleman, tries to maintain his family happiness, even when strained to the breaking point by Richard Long's determination to go to war. This movie loses nothing to the years since it was made, and remains one of the best movies I have ever seen.
