New Radio of Yore
Let us return to the glory days of radio, when a suspensful silence followed by an abrupt organ chord could make or break a presentation and the actors performances were stilted, yet interesting and believable. "Captain Underhill Uncovers the Truth" has made a half-hearted stab at repeating the supreme success that series like "The Shadow" and "Inner Sanctum" experienced in 1940's and '50's. The first explanation of the sad performances was that the troupe was trying to parody old radio shows. As the story continued to be presented, it became painfully apparent that the actors were playing the script straight. The reading of each actor was 5th grade at best. The lack of intonation, voice fluxuation or even volume made for boring listening. There was, at least, some attempt to represent the older bewildered character with an older bewildered actor, however his performance left one wondering if they had just called one of the actor's fathers as a last minute replacement. The story line was good and the twists and turns were appropriately suspenseful. The writing was plain and effective.

Cute and holds attention of children, even without the iceberg rotational ability or the playing cards. Love the squeek in the beak!
