A Comfortable Read
Having read "War and Peace" some five times, I think the most succinct and accurate thing I can say about this translation is that it's comfortable and a joy to read. It avoids both the stilted accuracy of early translations and the awkward attempts at contemporary familiarity. This reads like what it's supposed to be, a good story set as a great novel and thanks to translations like this, still the greatest novel ever written. It flows like a smooth flowing river. It was a delightful find. Bravo, Ann Dunnigan
