Heller Stug III. Not what I expected!
Stug III Heller vs Das Werk model kits.
I have purchased the 1/16 scale German Stug III tank from Heller manufacturer because, at the time I thought it'll be the same level of detail as the Das Werk kit, but I couldn't be more wrong, it turns out, it isn't.
The Heller kit is of a much lesser quality, in my opinion.
How I wish I could go back in time.
While the Das Werk kit has all the interiors (complete cannon equipment, radio equipment, seats, floors, walls), the Heller has nothing. Completely empty space. While the Das Werk has a fully functional doors and hatches, with hinges, on the Heller kit you have to choose gluing them in place, open or closed. While the Das Werk kit has fully functional suspension by torsion bars, the Heller kit does not. It has torsion bars, alright, but, while in the Das Werk kit the shock absorbers are fully functional on the Heller kit the shock absorbers are fixed. So, if you can't move those, the rest of the wheel suspension won't move either, because of that.
The only good, distinctive feature on the Heller kit? It comes with the armor side skirts (Schürzen), which the Das Werk model doesn't have.
So, if you think, as I did, that purchasing the Heller model kit you'll have the same level of detail as the Das Werk kit has, you're wrong.
I'll try and sell the Heller model kit and buy a Das Werk one, because at 1/16th scale a tank model must have much more detail than the Heller model has. In fact there are 1/35th scale models of this tank with much more detail than the Heller one has.
