Easy to follow but authoritative
Bought this after working with Manley's more recent "Egyptian Hieroglyphs for Complete Beginners". Some of the material covered overlaps, unsurprisingly, but this goes into more detail and starts to introduce the ideas behind the grammar of Middle Egyptian. Good examples / illustrations based on real inscriptions are also a help, since reading hieroglyphs depends on how they were written as much as on which exact signs were used. An ideal next step.

A Big Improvement Over Other Tutors
I'm well pleased with this as a complete beginners guide. It manages to combine introducing the instrument and what you need to know to get playing in a very accessible form. After trying with other tutor books this one has got me trying to play something every day and that can only be good.The fingering method explained is easy to work with. I particularly like the collection of familiar, traditional, tunes transcribed for Anglo concertina so that you know that what you are doing sounds like it is supposed to. I'm confident that this is setting me on a good path to some level of competence!
