It works
I bought an adapter from Amazon which I returned because, despite mostly good reviews, it would only play the tape for a few seconds before jamming. Looking at other reviews this seems to be a problem with many 3rd party replacement adapters, so I was worried that, if I couldn't find one that worked, my collection of home movies would be unplayable. After looking at more reviews, I took a chance on the Konig and I am pleased to say it worked perfectly. It is lighter and not as sturdy as the original JVC adapter but I only need it to work long enough to transfer the tapes to DVD or a PC. The original adapter had stopped working because the battery terminals were corroded due to the batteries being left in for years unused. However I have since cleaned the terminals using a combination of white vinegar, abrasive pads and scraping with a small screwdriver and after a few tries it worked, so I now have contingency if either the JVC or Konig fail in the future.
