Controller for LED Screen
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I had an old IBM T20 laptop. The motherboard died, but the screen and other components were good. I wanted to find a way to re-use the screen from the T20, but wasn't sure how to do that. I heard of controller boards that can be configured for specific LED manufacturer and model numbers.
I disassembled the laptop, and removed the screen, got the maker, the model, and the size. I searched for controller boards and found an Ebay site that provides specific controllers. I ordered the correct board and confirmed with the seller that it should work with this screen.
Upon receipt - about two weeks, it came from China -I hooked up the screen to the controller and hooked up my Raspberry Pi to the controller. I powered the controller board and the Raspberry Pi. Instantly the screen came to life.
The controller board also has control buttons for navigating the screen's menu. The buttons are not labeled, but are easy to figure out. I can make a set of labels, so no problem there.
I have not had it long, so I don't know what the long term reliability will be, but it appears to be well made with good looking soldering and good component placement. It should be fine, and I'm happy to have the use of a good screen for a project I want to do that will give me nice little media player for a retirement work shop. When I get to retirement!

Exploring Earlier, but Not Too Old Computing
I bought this board as the base for a retro-PC build, to explore the simplicity and fun of an older system. On-board switches and jumpers may not sound like fun, but they were years ago and provided the way to understand how PC hardware actually works.
It's a Gigabyte motherboard, and they are a particular favorite of mine. Well known, reliable, and a long history of good product. This particular one had been in a Compaq PC, and as such has a Compaq-specific BIOS. However, it seems that there is a Gigabyte BIOS update that will eliminate the specific Compaq setup. I'll be looking into that as soon as I finish the build of my "retro-PC".
The AMD K6/475 that came with the board is near the top end of CPU options for this board, and from the little bit of testing that I've done so far, it has been very responsive. In my research into the board, it seems that there is a very small amount of L2 cache built in, and it may be better to actually disable that cache and just rely on the larger cache on the K6 CPU.
This will not be a pure retro build, as I have no IDE hard drives, and the (lack of) speed in those old drives, plus the limited availability of reliable drives leaves the possibility of CF card as a primary drive. CF cards are native IDE-connected devices and - within certain limitations - are a natural solution.
As the build progresses, the possibility of PCI video and audio cards become appealing. I'm not a gamer, but it might be interesting to follow the lead of others and discover the fun of early game titles.
Networking will be a particular challenge, from what I understand. So, that will be one more challenge to research and resolve.

Good value!
Inexpensive and surprisingly good video card. I'm not a gamer, so I don't know how that part works but it presents video quite well and is stable.
