Good old fashioned solid technology
Unless you are in a hurry, a heavy cast iron pan is the best way to cook something. The mass of iron prevents the temperature of the pan changing rapidly and the thickness of the metal allows heat to flow across the pan so hot spots are minimised. Stored heat means that often cooking can complete with the hob turned off.
Le Creuset is an old established brand of heavy iron pans that will last a lifetime or two. The sheer durability means that second hand items like the ones I bought can be very satisfactory. If you have never tried cooking with heavy iron, a second hand eBay item is a good way to try it out.

Useful when a directional microphone is needed
Most miniature capsules are omnidirectional and pick up all kinds of extraneous noise. This one really is directional and it makes a big difference.

Best value shift lens available. Extremely well made and a joy to own.
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich In these days of cell-phone cameras,and digital SLRs this is a dinosaur. It doesn't auto focus, it doesn't meter couple, it doesn't even have auto stop down. Put this on the front of a Mamiya 645, and you have a very effective doorstop.
But once your photography goes beyond the point-and-pray stage, you become more critical of your work. You won't accept that buildings that were built vertical seem to be tapering in your pictures, or that square things come out barrel shaped.
This dinosaur is a perspective control lens, also known as a shift lens. To photograph a building, you keep the camera perfectly level and you wind the front of the lens up with a knob. The field of view rises but the building stays straight and square.
In these days of marketing hype and throw-away products, it's refreshing to own a product that was designed by someone who cared and was built to last. This lens might be ten or twenty years old, but it will still be working well in another twenty years. I like the weight. I like the restrained appearance that is almost dignified. It's nice just to handle it.
There are not many shift lenses on the market, and most of them cost an astronomical amount of money. These Mamiya shift lenses secondhand on eBay represent astonishing value for money, as indeed do all the manual focus 645 lenses.
