The Pirate Coast by Richard Zacks.
This is a superb, dynamic history of the conclusion of the Barbary War and the authentic American hero William Eaton, who through exceptional courage,fortitude and in many cases shear stubbornness successfully concluded this chapter in America's Wars. Outstanding style, comprehensive and thoroughly written and so enjoyable and spell binding that it simply can not be put down after the first page. If you are a Marine, other service member, or an historian, this is must reading. It is good to really understand where the words , "To the Shores of Tripoli" in the Marines Hymn came from and the real story of Lieutenant Presly O'Bannon, USMC of Marine Corps Legend.

Another outstanding Edward Murphy book!
This is another Edward Murphy must read if you have any interest in the VietNam War, particularly the events in VietNam's I Corps area related to the Seige at Khe Sanh in early 1968. This is a very detailed look at the fights for the hills surrounding Khe Sanh on the north and west during the year prior to the seige. You will come to love the grunt Marines who bore the battle with a stoic courage and acceptance. You will not appreciate and better understand the Westmoreland-Walt ongoing conflict, which likely cost many a young Marine their life. You be the judge of who was right with respect to strategy in defeating the NVA and remnants of the VC in I Corps. This book has immense value and direct relationship to the War our Armed Services fight today in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Again, this is a must for the military scholar, or anyone with interest in how and how not to wage war! An exceptionally well researched and written book that you can not put down once you start and similar to the Murphy book Semper Fidelis - VietNam which details the Marine Corps actions throughout the War in VietNam 1961-1975.
