Excellent as an interesting novelty of mid-2000s technological optimism, but completely useless as a real browser.
I only bought this product for the memory expansion cartridge, but I thought I might as well have a go of the Internet Browser itself. What I will say is that it's absolutely impractical for browsing today's web - it would seem, judging by the contemporary reviews, that it barely managed to handle the web of 2006 either.
Further complicating the matter is the fact that the DS can only connect to Wi-Fi networks which use the WEP encryption scheme. I can almost guarantee you that your home router will use a newer, incompatible system. To connect the DS to your network, you will have to set up a virtual WEP hotspot on a modern device - just don't forget to disable it once you turn off the DS.
To add insult to injury, it is incapable of viewing any websites that use HTTPS. Given that a huge number of sites no longer allow connections over HTTP, you will be fairly limited in the pages you can visit.
Despite these glaring deficiencies, I quite enjoyed fiddling about with the Nintendo DS Browser. It's obviously useless for any real usage, but it can be fairly amusing to see how it handles the websites of today (of those that load at all). And of course, the memory expansion comes in handy for certain homebrew software, so it's well worth the price just for that.
All things considered, the Nintendo DS Browser is only recommended to the curious, the collectors, or the masochistic. Don't buy it for any more than £3, I would say.
