Missing drive groove
My original Bernina bobbins have a groove cut into the bore which catches a sprung ball bearing on the winder shaft. These don’t have that feature, and slip noisily during winding.

Excellent, though not for everyone
I bought a copy after borrowing this book from my local library. For a few years I've been wanting to learn more about cooking without recipes, to make use of whatever I might find in my fridge or at the grocery store. In a flash of insight it dawned on me that I wanted to know how to 'think like a chef,' so I Googled that phrase and up popped this title. I was initially dismayed because of my distaste for reality TV, but it turns out that this book was written well before Bravo made Colicchio such a celebrity and so is free of the hyped tone I'd feared. The book explains basic cooking techniques in very accessible, encouraging, demystifying language. The recipes are designed as educational exercises, and the ones I've tried have produced wonderful food and also been truly enlightening. I now feel, for example, that I could casually pan-roast any thick fillet of fish, or braise any hunk of tough meat, without consulting any recipe for reference. This is exactly the sort of liberation I was hoping for.
The previous reviewer has a point about the 'fanciness' of it. In particular, Colicchio assumes you have access to some rather obscure ingredients. Try finding salsify or veal sweetbreads in your small Midwestern town and you may be frustrated. Nevertheless, there's a lot to love about this book. It fills a very important niche on my shelf.
