Groovy Boogie Trip
This is an amazing aural odyssey. A classic on par with Skip Spence's Oar or spiritually similar to early CAN. The only fault I can find is that it could be weirder/wilder. But that being said, still brilliant. An added bonus are the vocalisings of one Rick James. Worth seeking out.

The Real Jet
Hooray, Jet's 1975 album is back in print. A 2 disc set featuring the debut lp on disc 1 produced by Roy Thomas-Baker (Queen/the Cars/etc.) and live material and songs for a purposed second lp on disc 2. Featuring the madcap brilliance of pop tunesmith Martin Gordon (bass-formerly with Sparks), along with vocalist Andy Ellison (John's Children), drummer Chris Townson (John's Children/Jook), guitarist Davy O'List (the Nice), and cheeseboardist Peter Oxendale (Sparks), also guitarist Ian Macleod on 1/2 of disc 2. A collection of Martin's usual tongue in cheek, blowing raspberries at the world songs that are fun and toe-tapping. The liner notes are hilarious and a bonus to boot. Highlights include: Nothing to Do with Us, Diamond's Are a Girl's Best Freind, and...and... pretty much everything else. Gordon, Ellison, and Macleod would soon start up the fantastic pop/punk band Radio Stars after this, which is another damn fine band-but that's another story. Buy it!

Fanny rocks?
This is a good solid album with some very strong tracks ("Butter Boy", title track) and interesting (?) covers ("Sally Go Round the Roses", "Let's Spend the Night Together"). Unfotunately the production is not as good as previous releases as it is more plastic funk and veers away from the rock edge on the earlier lps. Perhaps this is due to the absence of June Millington who left the band prior to this release. Patti Quatro is a fine guitarist but it seems as if she's taking over the reins a bit too much and leading the band away from the "Fanny sound". Better than average but not as good as the first four albums. A necessity for fans, though.
