Intriguing Film
The cast is limited in this film with a focus on Bruce Greenwood and Xavier Dolan. Bruce Greenwood plays Dr. Green, the administrator of a mental hospital who in his work has limited contact with the resident patients until he questions Xavier Dolan's character, Michael, about the disappearance of his therapist. Michael is the last person to see his therapist alive. The film unfolds through a series of clips of an inquiry, the true nature of which is not revealed until the end of the film. Michael plays endless games with the staff. He knows the location of his therapist, but instead of telling Dr. Green what he wants to know, he engages in a series of mis-directions that push a series of Dr. Green's buttons. The result is Michael getting the upper hand during the course of their meeting. It is clear that Dr. Green has become too emotional to handle Michael effectively, and the end result is heart wrenching. This is a heavy drama that will completely engage you as you learn why Michael is the way he is. Bruce Greenwood and Xavier Dolan give amazing performances in their very challenging roles. I've never seen Bruce Greenwood put a foot down wrong in any role he has had, so that didn't really come as a surprise. I think he is one of the finest actors in film today. The writing could have been a little tighter as there are a couple relationships of the secondary characters that are a bit confusing, which is the only reason I gave the film a 4-star rating instead of a 5-star rating. I watch a lot of movies, and have never seen one quite like this. It is well worth the watch.

Bruce Greenwood is Outstanding as Always
While this is supposed to be a quirky comedy, it is really a lot more than that. Bruce Greenwood, whose character only speaks in ad slogans in the film, actually says more with his eyes and body language than he does when he is spouting off slogans. He is incredibly expressive, and those statements with his eyes are often quite deeply serious. Best of all, he plays guitar in this film (he plays quite well in real life) and the first solo piece is quite beautiful. If I had a neighbor who sat on his terrace and played guitar like that, I would leave all of my windows open all night to listen to him. This is a heartfelt story more than just the surface comedy. I found the characters who had taken over his character's ad agency in his absence a bit annoying, but they weren't suppose to be likable. If you view it with that in mind, I think you will really enjoy this movie a lot.
