Great Performance and Quality

Had one that was stolen years ago - and missed that steam locomotive pulling the long string of LNER teak Gresley coaches. Had given up ever having another until this one came up for sale. Initial run with just the locomotive was impressive - with slow smooth starts in forward and reverse. Then added my 10 teak Gresley coaches and could not tell any difference in performance - with plenty of power to pull the 10 coaches. If anything it seemed a bit smoother. Then decided to increase the load and added another 10 coaches - the Intercity Swallow Mk4s currently pulled by a Class 91 electric version of the Flying Scotsman. Eased up on the power and after a very slight bit of wheel slip (just like a video of the real locomotive) the A3 pulled the entire train of 20 passenger coaches with no problem. About 12 of the 20 coaches were in the curve when started, surely contributing to the load vs all being on the straight. All of this initial testing was done on flat track with 28 inch radius curves. It easily reached full speed as if it was not pulling a single coach. Could not ask for a better steam locomotive. The detail in the plastic casting is superior to other A3s of that period and the paint job does it justice. Have not seen the Dapol A3, but wouldn't think it could do much better in looks. Now to put it to work ! ! !
