The Passion of John Aspinall, Very Good Condition, Masters, Brian, ISBN 97802240

Dense but leaves-no-stone-unturned biography, worth the read for those who like zoo history
The book itself was very well-written and researched. Masters did a fantastic job getting Aspinall's trust and cooperation to fully illustrate his biography. While Masters admittedly approved of his subject's work on preserving and breeding endangered species, he didn't try to whitewash his subject's questionable political leanings.
There were some portions that didn't make much sense to include, such as having 5-7 pages describing his ancestry. They felt a bit of trudge to read through. I do feel there could use more interviews of other figures in the zoology field to serve as counterpoints to some of Aspinall's unconventional and at times, controversial decisions in running his Zoo (i.e. allowing free contact with tigers), or even speaking to those who supported his management style (asking directs of zoos who came to Aspinall's properties learn how to improve the living quarters and social dynamics of their gorilla colonies).
