Great for sci-fi readers and soon-to-be fans
Perfect timing to get this first in a series, for my teen and I to enjoy together. So sad about the recent passing of this author, but this book is the first of dozens that we will enjoy. Pratchett is great for the sci-fi lover--his fantasies and futuristic writing will thrill you. He's also great for the not-so sci-fi fan (like me) because his books are laced with quirky characters and his use of humor is entertaining.

Classic tale still fresh for today's readers
One of the finest books I've ever read with my teen. We listened to it on CD, we read it together, and now he's re-reading it. The book engendered great discussion about the use of fire, future society, what parts of the story seem chillingly relevant to today's culture. Marvelous book. Written so many years ago but its themes are relevant today.
