KITCHENDAO Universal Knife Block knife holder - Detachable for Easy Cleaning - F
    26. Aug 2020
    Attractive and effective
This review refers to the knife holder with clear sides, not to opaque versions. The knife holder has a small footprint (about 5 inch diameter), so not filling up a lot of counter space, and because it is clear plastic does not occupy a lot of visual space either. This version holds about 7-8 knives, mine is holding 7, including a chef's knife, carving knife, bread knife, vegetable knife, paring knife and a couple of others. Longest blade that will fit without leaving exposed blade at the top of the holder is 10 inches, and that over center part of the holder. Knife holder separates for washing, and has drainage opening at bottom if one should put in wet knives??. Has been stable with no tendency to tip over, and appears sturdy enough. The plastic is strong enough to be stable, but not particularly thick so do not expect it to survive if dropped from the counter, Knives fit in slots at the top, blades do not touch each other or the knife holder. Have been using this knife holder for about a year, most recent purchase (one being reviewed ) was purchased for a gift.
A Plague of Poison (Templar Knight Mysteries, No. 3) by Ash, Maureen
    20. Mai 2020
Third in the Templar Knight mystery series
Continuation of the Knight Templar mystery series by Maureen Ash. Set in England in 1200 AD. Protagonist has returned to England after eight years of captivity in the Holy Land while on Crusade, sub plot involves his ongoing struggle with the collision between conviction, duty, honor, and right, major plot is whatever the murder du jour happens to be (in this case a seemingly random poisoning). Mystery is interesting and tied to historical context.
Herrschner's Blue Ribbon Afghans by Janica L. York
    25. Jul 2018
"Blue Ribbon Afghans" indeed. This time the title is a spot on representation of the content.
The book does not appear to have been used, and the condition was excellent. This is a compilation of four dozen afghan patterns, some knitted, but most appear to be crocheted, that were chosen from the winners of Herrschner's National Afghan Contest (contest began in 1991 and this edition was published in 2000). Both full size and baby afghans are represented in these patterns, and a variety of stitch types. All of the patterns are illustrated with a photo, and most have two, usually a large photo of the entire afghan, and a smaller photo of a stitch or design detail. Each of the patterns is rated based on the estimated level of difficulty. There are charts for some details. The print size is comfortable to read, and the instructions appear to be clear and easy to follow. This book does include a small section on knit and crochet instructions, but it is probably unlikely that these instructions would be enough for a beginner to get through the afghans in this book without some additional instruction. This book was personally purchased to obtain the afghan pattern pictured on the cover of the book, but on examination there are many intriguing patterns. The Scalloped Ripple pattern is stunning, as are several of the cable stitches, and the raised giraffe pattern would make a lovely baby afghan...…………………………...
