3-Pack of Herco Flat Thumb Picks - Light
    27. Jan 2020
too thin and light to be of ant use.
thin, light gauge picks are useless and often come off my thumb. the medium or heavy gauge would be much better.

Eastman MD615 Mandolin F Style Electric
    23. Aug 2016
    A great acoustic-electric mandolin!
Eastman mandolins have excellent tone, generally, and some think are the best of the imports. With solid wood construction, spruce and maple, it's hard to improve on the design, unless you prefer Adirondack red spruce, which is available on the md815. That brings a premium price. It does not have the flowerpot headstock or the fingerboard extension, if those are important to you. The md615 is like the md515, but is acoustic-electric, with an internal microphone pickup. It reproduces the acoustic tone beautifully and accurately, unlike some piezzo pickups on other mandolins which have a more metallic sound. I like to use this mandoln for recording and for live venues, when amplification is desirable. In those situations, the volume output may need a boost from a preamp depending on the amplifier or PA system you are using. I have the L.R. Baggs Venue for a preamp. This mandolin also has a very nice, chrome Eastman tailpiece and binding around the headstock and body, along with the radius fingerboard, which some think is easier to play than the traditional flat fingerboard. I am not convinced of that. The neck is slightly wider than the norm, at 1 and 3/16", which some find easier to play. I agree with that! The cloth covered case has several zipper compartments. A molded fiberglass case is the best and most durable choice for cases, in MHO for guitars or mandolins, so I bought one for traveling. All in all, this is a great instrument. This dealer, who I know, is a good guy.

A great tool for home recording.
I bought this to record backing tracks for my mandolin to use during worship in church. It's been great! Using this is excellent way to improve my performance, timing and technique. Typically I record a rhythm track with my 6 string acoustic guitar, a second track with my electric, a third with mandolin, and a fourth with my twelve string, depending on the tune. That leaves me several empty tracks for additional effects or instruments, or vocals. On Sundays, I plug it into the audio system for playback. The 008 recorder has reverb only, whereas the newer dp-008ex has additional effects. You can mix down the tracks any way you like and make a final two track stereo version. I recommend purchasing the power pack rather than using batteries, which wear out quickly. Amazingly, this unit has the same capabilities as what the Beatles used to record Sgt Pepper in the '60s, which was done with an 8 track recorder!
