A closer walk down the traditional memory lane
I saw Ken Colyer at the 51 Club in Great Newport Street twice a week or more in the late 50s and early 60s - I knew his bass player very well and we used to have a drink across the road occasionally -I had a beard at that time and was sometimes mistaken for Mac Duncan his trombonist - Ken played a lot of traditional music such as Hiawatha Rag and much of what he learnt in New Orleans was brought to London and so he opened up a lot of interest in New Orleans jazz. He was interesting but he hardly even hit a note above the high A - he stuck strictly to the formula where instrumentalist always worked together to from an ensemble rather than having a long solos - so this album brought back a lot of happy memories for me - Ken also played a left handed guitar and sang with a rather individualistic sound due in part to his smoking his own 'roll-ups' - he was rather reserved for a jazz musician but probably shy but thanks to him traditional New Orleans jazz was made known in Britain - small more intimate ensembles which contrasted with the larger bigger dance bands of the 1930s -
Chris Barber who worked with him became better known to the general public and I met him at Silverstone and he was so very kind and invited myself and my friend -to the 100 club to meet the band - it is interesting to contrast the recordings of Chris Barber with Ken's especially in relation to the traditional music from New Orleans rather than the jazz renderings of the popular songs of the 20s and 30s. - and to listen to the recordings they made together in the Crane River Jazz Band -

Most robust helpful if rather heavy and bulky
It works well and is robust - some ladies might find it heavy - the main thing is that it does the job
well it has hole in the handles by which is may be easily stored as on a kitchen rack - .

fine
I was expecting more photos and ones of high quality as this was about images of a given period
