Micron filters - inexpensive
These micron filters are very inexpensive and they work.
They are not sterile but fairly clean.
Works well with water based solutions. Haven't tried oil based yet.
No trouble with air locks unless you re use the filter, in which case air locks eventually happen. But quite large amounts can be filtered through.
Filtering through 30ml isn't a problem.
This depends on how much particles are in the solution ofcourse,
but if you try filter 50ml of tap water then that's easy and quick.
For solutions with lots of particles I pre filter through a rough filter first.

A high quality (short) spear
I also have the Assegai w/long shaft from Cold Steel, and found that it's actually easier to throw the longer spear. But with some practice it's a good spear for throwing.
The Zulus actually used short shafts on their spears, which makes it easier to both bring with you two spears and a shield, where they threw one and used the other as a sort of "sword" with their shield.
Anyway, the product is very good. The spearhead is exactly the same as in the long assegai, and it withstand a lot of abuse. (I've missed my targets a lot and hit the ground where I've even seen sparks from impact with stones.
The spear will need to be resharpened after dulling in the ground if it's to be any good for cutting, but for throwing and sticking into a tree it doesn't need to be sharpened often.
For the price this spear is awesome, and it would be a good spear for twice the price as well.
To sum up;
The spearhead is made of high quality steel with a good heat treatment. It can tolerate a LOT, and when dull it's easy to sharpen.
With the short shaft the balance point on the spear is on the spear head, so you hold it where the metal connects to the wood. As such, if the shaft needs to be reattached and in the process made shorter, it will need some counterweight on the shaft to balance it. (Or just a new shaft)
It's an awesome weapon not just for throwing, as it can be a sort of primitive "sword", as it's lightweight and easy to handle, and the edges are quite long.
All in all a great spear, and I recommend the long shaft assegai as well. Once you start throwing spears you'll want a couple.

Excellent for HEMA training and duels
Cold Steel isn't the best company for HEMA enthusiasts, but this buckler is actually very good. It's on the heavier side, but not TOO heavy. Other steel bucklers we use are the same weight.
It's made of plastic, and isn't supposed to be used against metal weapons, but I use it against steel swords and see no issues.
Yes, steel swords will dent the plastic, but not more than what happens to a wooden buckler (and we use wooden bucklers against steel both in HEMA and throughout history).
I just use a knife to shave away sharp edges that occurs when the buckler is dented after sparring and can allready see that it will take a LOT of sparring before this buckler is destroyed.
I would actually suspect it will last longer than a wooden buckler.
Another great thing is the handle and the room around the handle. This is big enough to fit in a protective glove much better than some other bucklers I've tried. It's also nice a nice grip where you can place your thumb on the grip for better control of the buckler.
So, for a robust cheap buckler that will last a long time even with lots of sparring (against metal weapons) I'd recommend this.
If you use it only against plastic/wooden weapons it will last forever.
Let me again say that the grip is very good on this buckler.
So I actually prefer this bucker over another steel buckler I have when sparring. Weight is in the upper limit but not too heavy, which can't be said about a lot of Cold Steel products.
