Prime v3
This new volume of the rules is a useful addition for me as a long time, casual Warmachine player. The examples are clear and multiple illustrations make readily apparent the nuances between different, yet related, game situations. The new interpretations and rules changes seemed readily evident and the explanations for the rules in general are easy to read, and completely understandable. There are also sections devoted the process of both building and painting the figures, as well as designing and producing terrain relevant to the game format. One challenge I had is that they system as a whole is now so large as to preclude all items of each faction's inventory from being included in the book. The cards for the warmachines, units and individuals come with the purchase of each individual item, but being available in the book would make it that much more useful as a method for completely considering and fielding a coherent force. It's by no means an impediment, just something that would further enhance (and probably greatly enlarge) an already large book. The faction card decks are also available so there are other methods for figuring out all the possibilities for force building.
Another aspect that has always been a strength of this system is the narrative provided for each faction and each item, unit or individual figure. There is no shortage of fictional supporting information that provides a rationale for the history of the game system and it combatants. The illustrations are both large and colorful, providing possible paint schemes for all figures in the game system as well as lots of further color background to enhance the rules.
I freely admit to being an enthusiast of Warmachine since its inception, so I may not be the most objective reviewer, but there is a lot to recommend with this system. The new v3 rules provide an exciting, expansive and colorful basis for engaging and enjoying the game system.
