Bachmann Bulleid corridor brake third coach
This is a specialist item which would not be purchased casually but by a model railway enthusiast who specifically requires it. That said, it satisfied a requirement I had to make up a representative rake of coaches appropriate to the early 1950s on the Southern Region of British Railways. It has not been available on general sale for some years and future production may be subject to upgrading by the manufacturer. It pleases me and, whatever shortcomings it may have (in the eyes of fellow enthusiasts), is superior to the toylike models that were available 50 and more years ago.

Dapol electro-diesel locomotive
I was of two minds whether to buy this locomotive as the earlier Lima and Hornby offerings were not unacceptable.
However, this one is a definite improvement and well worth buying if you can find one. The green version seemed to sell very quickly and I am not sure if it is available now. I left it too late from the usual retailers and could only find this one on eBay. Moral: if you want something, buy it as soon as you can. The electro-diesels are a somewhat bland looking locomotive but have lasted in service for over 50 years, as long as many of the steam locomotives they displaced. I can remember when they were new. Non-steam locomotives actually make good subjects for accurate and detailed models and this one is no exception, whilst eBay is a good source of quality model railway items and I have acquired very many this year.
