excellent product by one of America's Top Rock bands
Eagles Selected Works is a great deal! their music is arranged thematically which makes each disc a unique collection. Disc One contains their more country elements featuring Glenn Frey's lead vocals more prominently as well as Bernie Leadon guitar. Disc One has good plenty of ballads and faster tunes.
Disc Two is Ballads. It is a collection of band's best ballads and it showcases the Eagles greatest strength; they are a rock ballad group with some of the best rock ballads every recorded.
Don Henley's songwriting expertise and unforgettable vocals are the best, and the two Randy Meisner and two Timothy B. Schmit ballads show four frontmen who can sing. It is my favorite disc of the three.
Disc Three is the Fast Lane, so named after their famous Life In The Fast Lane rock track. Three number one rockers are on this disc, Hotel California, One Of These Nights, and Heartache Tonight, as well as some deep albums rockers from their last three albums. This disc features Joe Walsh and Don Felder with their attack leads on guitar.
Disc Four is a live concert from A Millennium Show in Los Angeles. It has two stand out tracks, Best Of My Love arranged with a more R and B feel and Peaceful Easy Feeling with great harmony vocals. Also of interest are live performances of Victim Of Love and Those Shoes, another highlight.
The live performance of Hotel California is disappointing however, because the guitar mix doesn't sound right. Felder's lead guitar is quite a bit in the distance lacking power, not due to his skill of course but because of some mixing problem.
Song selection was a little odd on the live disc. Please Come Home for Christmas Ol 55 and Funky New Year could have been replaced with better tunes like Lyin Eyes, One Of These Nights, and a Joe Walsh song like Turn To Stone.
Still live disc is historic and a good listen.
There is a good booklet with photos and interviews that has substance. the artwork for the CDs captures the Southwest with the desert in full bloom.
