The triumphs and tragedies of a pioneer Florida family
Author Scott Ritchie is related by marriage to a descendant of the Flemings of Fleming Island, has devoted years of research to documenting and re-telling the story of that family - and the results are outstanding. Prior to this there was only one non-fiction account of the Fleming headquarters at Hibernia, and that was of limited scope and long out of print. As a result, most of what had been 'known' about the family came from the popular novels of Eugenia Price.
But Mr. Ritchie's narrative now provides us with many interesting facts never before assembled in one volume, while it lays to rest a number of misconceptions that had been circulating for some years.
A fascinating saga of a pioneer Florida family and the many challenges it met through nearly two centuries.

One man's dark but beautiful meditations on relics and mankind
Eiseley was the foremost writer of his generation on the connections between archaeology, evolution, and human affairs. This particular work is of even more interest in that it is basically his autobiography as well. His vision is often dark, but compelling and poetic as well. One technical point is that the hardcover editions are the most readable and sturdy. But if you buy a paperback copy, go for a recent edition; the ones from the 1960s and 70s, tend to be printed on cheap acidic paper that has become brittle with age.
