The Glories of the HP-15C
2 von 2 finden das hilfreich A long time ago, I misplaced my original HP-15C, when moving. I felt I had lost a dear beloved friend. I wasn't the same after that. For years and years I looked for it, but it never came back to me. Then, almost as if by a miracle, HP brought this beloved calculator back! When I heard about it, I could hardly believe my ears. But yes, it's BAAAACK! And with a vengeance! It is over 100 times faster than the original, and has all the features the original had. It's almost tooooo fast!
Sometimes, I enjoy watching a calculator "struggle" to get the answer. The flashing screen of the original 15C, as it said "running" let you know of its struggle to answer your mathematics questions. To see a calculator struggle to get the answer is half the fun of finally getting it. There are no more stuggling calculators (sad, in this day and age of super-fast processors).
The one thing I would have liked to see added to the 15C is a much larger memory. They stayed with the original 448 bytes, and with cheap memory today, one wonders why they did that? I bet that was a major debate between management and engineers, but oh well. It's still a lot of fun to use, and I use it daily in my scientific studies. The tactile feel of the keys is a joy to use. And the super clear LCD readout makes it easy to see the result even at odd angles. All in all, the HP-15C deserves the magnificent reputation it enjoys. One of the greatest calculators ever conceived!

Good text, but has bad errors.
I am a chemistry major, planning on going on with advanced chemistry studies. What I like:
This book is the required text for my organic chemistry series. After having looked it over, I think it will do well in explaining difficult reaction mechanisms because the author makes consistent use of curved arrows (which is the way all chemists describe electron-transfer reactions) and this is very important.
What I do not like:
I have, however, found some errors in the text. They are mathematic calcuation errors. Not serious ---IF--- you are well versed in mathematics. But for a student who might not be, it would be a serious problem because (assuming they did the problem correctly) they would be bothered by the textbook error, and assume that they (the student) was in error, when in fact it is an error by the textbook. This kind of sloppiness is UNACCEPTIBLE in my opinion. It causes the student to question whether they understand the material...that LAST thing...an author would want! If I were writing a textbook, I would be damned SURE that the text did not contain errors before being published. But, that's me.

A great Whittling knife!
For under $12.00, this is the best Whittling knife I have! It is well made, easy to hold in the hands while whittling, and keeps an edge for a pretty long time. I was able to whittle for over an hour before having to strop it (just 5 passes on the strop is enough) and back to whittling again. I have other Whittling knives, but for the money, this is the best by far! I'm able to do intricate carving as well as removing large chunks of wood. This is an all-round Whittling knife. I highly recommend it.
