History of England by George Macaulay Trevelyan with maps (1928) HC
    02. Nov 2016
A Classic, but now a challenged, History of England
The Whig History of England to the max. I read this as a young man and decided to see whether I could find it on ebay. The book wa spublished in the 30s when there was still an Empire and when Hitler was on the rise in Germany. Trevalyan makes several allusions to the latter. i'll have to look closely to see whether he foresees the loss of the Empire. Anyway, it is definitly a bit dated but the Whigs were the historical good guys and it is worth a read.
Sun Mountain Front 9 Golf Stand Bag Gunmetal / Black / Red 2015 New

    Sun Mountain front 9
I went to this bag because I wanted to carry my clubs, not use a poush cart, although I am getting older. It is quite lightweight and it does give good value. It is assembled in the USA- a major plus. However, it is a bit of a push for Sun Mountain to advertise this as a 14 Club bag. You CAN put 14 clubs in it, but ,if you do, you will get some issues with the shafts tangling in each of the 3 subsections.. Also, the "...flare..." to ease club selection isn't all that large. I think this bag is best used for 10 clubs, as a de facto Sunday bag, That works for me anyway as I no longer carry the long irons or driver/3 wood. It is well designed and sits well. However, if you plan to carry 14 clubs, you might want to go to the Thre5 or the Four5 from this company.
Battle Cry of Freedom : The Civil War Era by James M. McPherson 1988, Hardcover
    05. Mai 2016
A must read for All Americans
By Professor McPherson of Princeton and part of Oxford University's History of the USA, this is well written book which covers the large themes of the "...Civil War Era...". It fully addresses the major Campaigns and battles, but it does not bog down in tactics. More importantly, it puts the War in context. In particular, and not by limitation, McPherson includes devastating quotes from the Southern leaders from 111111111155-1860, proving beyond any reasonable doubt that the South seceded over slavery not over any theoretical views on the scope of Government. He demonstrates the the SOUTH wanted a powerful Federal Gov't to pass and enforce a Federal Slave Code throughout the entire country. He points out that the South wanted War against Mexico and Caribbean and Central American countries oin order to create new slave states-a veritable Slave Empire. In short, this book explodes the entire "...Moonlight and Magnolias..." myth of Southern motivations for secession. A must-read for anybody who wants to know the Truth about the Civil War.
