Great, durable sub
This is a highly rated sub made by Polk Audio for over a decade (maybe two). Plenty of power for most applications and in the sweet spot between the thunderous 12" and small room 8" options. Though it is a bit bulky due to the forward firing port, that actually helps give it great sound even when against a wall or in a corner. I bought one in 2006 that still runs great. I was putting together a few systems as gifts, and these are the perfect complement to fill out the sound from smaller bookshelves like the Polk Monitor 30/XT15/ES15 or other 5.25" woofer speakers that can't reach very low without falling apart. Use them for a decent 2.1 configuration or use in an HT setup. I've used both the hard-wired built-in crossover and the RCA connections with signal from a sound processor with good results. I've purchased several and all have been solid.

Great entry level/small system speaker value.
These are a great basic/entry level speaker that work well in small systems and rooms or as surrounds in a home theater system. You can always find better, but for the dollar these are hard to beat. I've compared them to other similar speakers such as ELAC debut and Kanto Yu passive 5.25's, which can be considered a direct comparison, and they have a little more rich bass, and are brighter whereas the Kanto are more balanced and have a punchy bass. However, the Polk 30's really shine in a 2.1 system. I tested in combination with the matched Polk PSW10 and with the crossover set at about 110Hz that combo really shines. For the money it is hard to beat. I like the retro cherry vinyl veneer, but the blacks are fine and they are built with wall mounting stand-offs to allow the port to breathe when mounted.
