Far Appalachia by Noah Adams
It seems that most any book written by a journalist from the NPR airwaves is going to be great reading. Noah Adams' books are no exception.

A Film To Influence Today's Indie Filmmakers!
Though the best way to see this film is on the big screen in a real cinema(35mm projection), this DVD is very good. Great quality and good bonus extras, though a bit thin. I consider this documentary to be of historic value and one of the most valuable learning tools in my own development as a filmmaker. It also gives me motivation to grow in my own career. After 29 years of helping other people make their own films, I am going to make my own! I think that says a lot about the power of a film like A Decade Under The Influence. Remember, with independent film, you get the director's cut that first time!

Steel Band Music of the Caribbean
No collection of reggae music is complete without some good recordings of the music that led up to it. I'm speaking of mento, ska, rock steady and of course the amazing music of the steel drums, also known as the steel pans. This compilation of steel band music has a great variety of songs, certainly a good primer for a collector's first steel band recording. From the familiar pop songs covered to classic calypso jump up tunes, this recording deserves a place is everyone's collection. -H. Mann, filmmaker, film archivist & aficionado of ethnomusicology
