fun old school book on cabin/vacation home design and construction
if you want to design a cabin or home like one your grandparents may have had, this is a nice book to get some ideas from-- or just to take a trip down memory lane. Fun to look at. I got it for the ideas for outside fireplaces and cooking areas. The book contains information on site selection, styles and materials of cabins and cottages, and chapters on the basics of log, frame, stone and adobe construction methods. There is a chapter showing various floor plans, from a simple open sided hunting shelter to one room cabins to larger structures with several rooms. Chapters on fireplace construction, outdoor grills and firepits, and a chapter on cabin miscellany where making rustic furniture and fixtures, some considerations for water supply, sewage and the like are briefly discussed. First published in the 1940s, bear in mind that modern construction methods and building codes might change the actual construction these days, if you are located in any area that enforces building codes.

good book of early accounts of our first National Park, Yellowstone.
We go to Yellowstone National Park quite a bit, and it's history has always fascinated me. M. Mark Miller has collected a number of accounts from various people in the park's history, that provide some interesting glimpses into the park in earlier days. Broken up into a series of stand-alone accounts, it's a great book for when you just want to take a few moments and read a chapter.

Great reference book for early falshlights!
If you have any interest in collecting or using early flashlights, this is the book you NEED, especially if Eveready is your preferred brand. The author, Mr. Utley, has put together a beautifully presented and photo documented reference book for the early history of flashlights in general, and a very comprehensive guide to the products Eveready made. While not a collector of flashlights exactly, I do include them as part of my living history display of early 1900s camping gear. This book helped me easily document and find the exact models that I wanted to buy for my display. On top of that, it is fantastic to have a product over 100 years old that still works like the day it was made. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
