Xerox; a World Above HP
I have been using laser printers since 1986. I started with a B&W HP 4L; a small and very good machine. In fact, I'm still using it (with a few repairs) today as a back-up. It does text great, but not photos as it is poor at gray scale.
My next HP laser was the 2605 color laser. It worked really good for about 3 years, then started giving problems with reds totally missing (probably lost that laser gun), then power failures. Replaced it with a 2nd 2606; it really never worked well. Color dust all over the place; multiple cartages required, self-cleaning mode was a joke. Still have it, and works OK but not too good at colors.
Then, I needed an 11x17 machine. I purchased a full size Xerox 7234 from a local reseller that sells used units returning from rentals. It does it all & the colors are 10X better than the HP ever was. But, that is a large professional machine - you would expect such from a work horse.
Lately I've purchased a 6606 Workcenter. A do-all but standard paper machine. It too does photos & colors soo much better than HP. It really stands-out for quality. And, from what I've seen, toners & parts are less expensive than HP.
I've had two B&W Brother lasers. They too seem better & more relibable than HP.
Conclusion: I'm done with HP. No longer the leader they once were in test equipment or electronics. Apparently, the bean-counters finally got their way at that company.
