Beyond Witch Mountain DVD - 1982 - Eddie Albert - Tracey Gold - Walt Disney

A made for TV Disney film
A forty-eight minute Disney film. DVD resolution is not high def. I do not believe that this short film can hold up on its own but you might find it enjoyable if you watched "Escape to Witch Mountain" although Eddie Albert is the only actor common to both films.

The Concluding Season.
First the positive: Nice digital transference, a joy to watch. Still filmed in the same beautiful landscapes of Tuczon and California. Unfortunatelly a much shorter season: only 13 episodes in comparison to 21 episodes of Season 1. The situation: a great family show whose life was interrupted too soon. - The problem: the writing failed. - The reason: The script writers "painted themselves into a corner with the last two part episode of season 1. This moving show lost all its dynamics with that last episode. 'Father' John Murphy marrying the children's teacher left Michael Landon's writers in an impossible situation. The show was now left with: 1. No 'Father Murphy' (He was now happily married - no more threat of being discovered) 2. No orphans (they were all now happily adopted) 3. With no evil 'Mr. Rodman' (there were no orphans to persecute so he disappeared from the series) 4. No orphanage (There were no more orphans, so now it was only the large farmhouse of a couple with many adopted childen. All their previous dangers disappeared... no more dangers of being adopted away, no more dangers of being closed down. No more dangers of being taken away by the state or to the 'workhouse' The writers were placed in a situation "to create" a complete new show and and invent situations to keep the show's great chemistry, but instead the show was cancelled. Even the show's creator, Michael Landon stopped writting for the second season and you can tell the difference. If you liked the amazing first season and you loved the characters you might still enjoy watching this shorter season, but be ready to be somewhat disappointed. I wished this wonderful family show could have gone on for many seasons, but the wonderful two-part conclusion of season 1 gave it a lethal blow that could not be overcome by the writers of season 2.

Hollywood's Rejection, the People's Gain!!
Unjustly released on limited theatrical showing. It has proven to be another of John Grisham's winner! Made in defiance to Hollywood's twisted values. Using Little League Baseball as a background, the film's plot centers on the moral story of a father/son's relationship, a widowed lawyer wanted by the IRS dedides to assume a new identity for himself and for his son, and signs his now thirteen-year-old son up for one more year of Little League. However, this may have been a terrible threat to their new hidden identities, when his son's baseball talents capture the media's attention as his team moves toward the Little League world Championship. Great family film without all Hollywood requirements for a "sucessful film": violence, sex or foul language. A true winner that invites the viewer to ponder on a moral lesson.!
