Schatten V-02-PRO Passive Violin Bridge Pickup w/Embedded Piezo, Jack and Volume
28. Dez 2015
My experience with the V-02-Pro by Shatten.
I spoke with a number of performing violinists about various pickup options for amplifying the violin and was give the following considerations: 1) Most add on or attachment models that connect to the existing bridge have mechanical problems such as being prone to feedback, falling off at times, not picking up well rounded tones of your violin, and altering the natural tone of your violin from what you are used to when in place and if not removed for pure acoustic performance, 2) Most 'set in the bridge' piezo systems leave you with a permanent wood plus wired bridge that can be removed and replaced between acoustic and amplified performances but this tends to be a pain for most non luthier type violinist so you're stuck with a altered bridge for your pure acoustic sound, a situation some purists would not tolerate, 3) The permanent 'set in the bridge' pickups produce the best amplified sound but some tweeking is necessary for most performance situations to adjust for tonal problems, 4) The fitting should be done by a qualified luthier for best results. Taking into consideration this advice, I considered the available options and though most I talked with recommend the Baggs pickup, I decided the on the V-02-Pro because, though it was a passive pick up, it came with a volume control and I felt that might be important for boosting my signal for solos and to balance my sound within our band during performances as we don't have a dedicated sound guy. Contrary to advice, I installed the pickup myself as I have multiple experiences with this. There are several excellent YouTube videos on how to do this and well worth the investment of time to avoid learning the hard way on an expensive bridge. If you've never fitted a bridge before, I'd suggest you have a luthier do it. Because of the design of the Schatten, you can't make the bridge quite as thin overall as would be true for a professionally fit pure acoustic bridge but that is true for the Baggs as well and one just has to live with that. The piezo pickup comes permanently installed (no options of removing it) in a one tree Despiau Superieur bridge. Though only a one tree, the flames were quite long and the growth rings very very tight, so mine is an excellent piece of bridge wood, worthy of as fine a violin as one would want to use for amplification. Be very careful with the pickup wire during cutting of the bridge as it comes from underneath rather than from the side, and though I like this placement it makes for a little trickier exact fitting of the feet of the bridge. Use a fitting tool for this step and watch carefully not to sand the wire when doing it. When attaching the pick up jack, I had to remove the cork that came with the unit and replace it with cork that followed the angle of my violin side. I'm picky about this as I don't want any unnecessary pressure on the top of my violin that might change it's acoustics. You may not care about this issue but to me the cork that it came with did not exactly fit the curvature of my violin and might have meant pressure on the top that could effect the acoustic sound. Once all was in place, I found it necessary to adjust the sounding peg to within 1.5 mm of the rear of the high E foot of the bridge for best sound. You can play with this as necessary. Regarding sound quality once installed: I find the overall instrument tone when played purely acoustically is very close to nearly identical to what the violin sounded like with a not electrified bridge, so having the Schatten as a permanent installation won't be any problem for normal acoustic playing. When amplified, as I was informed by others, I do find the pickup is almost too sensitive and has to be turned down to about half volume or it picks up too much bow noise for most performance situations (Obviously, sometimes you want and use the bow noise as part of your effect) and I have to tweek the sound some. I've been using a Baggs para acoustic equalizer and removing the 1.6 gHz high mids by about one third from neutral, removing the low mids about the same, and boosting the lows about one third above neutral. I keep the presence and the highs at neutral. These aren't big adjustments but I find they reduce shrill and give me the best overall amplified natural acoustic. With the volume set at half, I only have to turn it slightly to pick up aboiut 8-10 dB boost for soloing and for me it's easier than a foot switch system. I think you could play it straight into an amp without going through an equalizer but you will have to cut your mids and boost your bass on the amp to get the right balance. It also plays real well through an analog delay pedal for Irish or church type music without the hassles of having to worry about proximity to a microphone. In my mind, it's a very good product.
Thomastik Dominant 135B Violin Set 4/4 E Ball End,New

Great strings for you violin.
I've tried many different strings and string companies including most of the Pirastro line and many lesser priced, both perlon core and steel core strings from a variety of manufacturers. Thomastic Dominant are really great strings for the money. They are clear toned with excellent sustain and easy play on the fingers. They aren't gut strings but still have charm and ring. For anything short of the super soloist, they are a great choice.

10 - PACK Yogayet X-Rap Style Crankbait/Jerkbait Fishing Lures Top Quality
27. Jul 2018
These lures are leakey.
Of the batch of 10 lures I received, about half took on water after the first few casts, becoming water logged and loosing their action. Once water logged they no longer rattled and after fishing, when the lures sat in the box, the rattling balls rusted inside the lures making them worthless.
