Best family camera so far (2008)
3 von 4 finden das hilfreich Firstly, I'm nothing to do with casio or anyone linked to sales of anything associated and yet 22 people I've shown my camera to have bought one: that's how good they are!
I've owned three: one died in heavy rain at 60mph on my motorcycle (where it had been taking fantastic video for a year despite the heavy vibration and British weather) and instantly replaced in on eBay with an identical one. I have a newer version with higher megapixels and bigger screen, but it isn't as light and the video isn't as good quality. If only it was waterproof!
You can download a firmware update which gets it able to use 8GB SD cards. The battery runs out before the card gets full of video! On long bike runs I take a couple of batteries (about 45 mins of video each).
Photographers will like the ability to adjust exposure,focus etc. and store your settings. Normal people will like the fact that you don't have to: just pick from a menu of example photos (Best Shot button) and snap what you chose (flower for macro mode, footballers, for sports mode and loads more).
One best-shot mode, I call 'Jenga-mode': once activated, the camera is taking video in a 5 second loop... point it at a jenga tower and when the tower falls down, press a button and the video is recorded from the loop onwards: in other words you get video of the tower from 5 seconds before it fell down as well as the time after you press the button! Like filming back in time before a funny event!
One of the reasons I bought it originally was the start-up time being short, and the minimal number of buttons on it (you can pick it up without operating buttons)! It has a play button when you want it to show you things, a camera button for when you want to take photos and a record button for when you want to take a video (reasonable DVD quality).
Most importantly, it's so small that you'll have it with you when you need it, any bigger and it would be left behind.
Casio should stop making bigger numbers an focus on bullet-proofing this camera. Olympus have a water-proof, shock-proof camera that only records onto strange memory cards, only takes 10 seconds of video and costs a fortune. If this camera was made waterproof and shockproof (possibly fixed or internally moving lens) it would be the ultimate sports and petrolhead camera. Add the ability to power it from an external source and my motorbike videos would be perfect.
Insurance companies should give everyone one of these to have in their cars to show what really happened during an accident! In 3 years I've caught 5 terrifying drivers on video and I don't do much more than commute.
We took video and stills of lots of insects for my boys' school projects, they were fantastic.
We've stopped taking a separate video camera and still camera to our kids performances, this little thing does both and has survived many drops onto concrete.
Totally impressed with the camera - wish Casio would make an extreme sports version!
