Grady "on a Mission from God" [not only a quote from Blues Brothers I: check out Matthew 3:3]
Grady and his Grader are a joy to behold. This set can either serve on a roadbuilding or -repairing scene, or as a flatcar or gondola load [saving Grady for another seat-equipped-machine job - if he can be pried loose that is, I'm not sure & did not try]. Both man and machine look up to their job, and then some. The machine obviously dates from the decades of the American Golden Generation [no COD [cab-over-driver] as of yet], who travelled on level and well-prepared roads. Or in streamliner trains... sigh.
BTW Graders like this one were used, alongside a plethora of other machinery, to quickly get the airstrips on all of those Pacific Islands up and running during WWII. Somewhere in one of my WWII books is a quote by a Japanese, who travelled America pre-war and, upon passing a road-repair site with three men and two machines [including a grader] performing the job, remarked that the same scene would require some 40 of those hard-working Japanese road-repairmen... with, and because of, zero machines.
