Overview of early recordings of a truly great band
"The Divine Comedy" is the name used by singer and composer Neil Hannon for his various musical ensembles. They perform melodic orchestral pop music of rare intelligence and beauty and this retrospective album provides a good overview of their early career.
Most of the tracks are drawn from their albums and include the hit "National Express". Strangely, one or two tracks have been re-recorded for the album, including "The Pop Singer's Fear of the Pollen Count" from "Liberation", and this listener actually prefers the original versions. There are also a couple of excellent and previously unreleased new songs, "Gin soaked boy" and "Too young to die".
The only weak track on the album is an experimental deconstruction of "I've been to a marvellous party", which was Hannon's contribution to an album of cover versions of Noel Coward's songs.
All in all, though, this is a very good introduction to a truly great band.

Flimsy gates
1 von 4 finden das hilfreich This is a reasonable scale model of a gated double-track level crossing but the design of the gates and posts really lets it down. The hinges into which the gates fit, which are part of the posts, are made of extremely thin and brittle plastic which breaks very easily. Despite taking considerable care in fitting gates, several of the hinges broke on the example I purchased, which leaves the gates hanging slackly and at an inauthentic angle and prevents their swinging neatly open. This ruins the appearance of the crossing, hence the one star rating which I have given it.
