Simple and Solid Yet Focused on Winning!
It has been a long time since I purchased an opening repertoire book. What I particularly like about this volume is the writing style of the author as he presents the material - more of a conversational method, as though I have an International Master walking me through the variations and ideas. The repertoire is geared towards simple and solid lines as Black, without volumes of complicated and in-depth analysis in which an amateur player like me would quickly get lost. The diagrams are set in color, as opposed to the usual black and white graphics, and this for me makes them clearer to view. Commentary speaks to specific aspects of the positions and ideas behind the moves. Yes, we need to memorize variations, but it is easier to do so when the goals and intentions of the opening moves in a variation are understood. I find IM Sielecki's choice of openings to be solid and relatively simple, and his delivery of material to be engaging.
