They sit side-by-side. So far, I can't decide which one to evict!
I bought this coffeemaker because I thought the barcode reader it contained would provide better quality for a variety of beverages. I already owned a Keurig but wasn't completely satisfied with its performance. Soooo... now they sit side by side on my kitchen counter! I haven't truly decided which to keep. Here's the thoughts so far... They're both really noisy. They huff and puff away like side-by-side freight trains. Filling the Keurig is a bit easier, but the Tassimo comes with a replaceable water filter. The filter for the Keurig is available but 'it'll cost ya'. If you have bad tap water, this could be a concern. You can buy a reusable metal pod for the Keurig (about $15.00) to brew your own coffee choice. The Tassimo can only use it's own pods. The display on the Tassimo that tells you what to do next is a bit difficult to read. Since it is reading the barcode for instructions, it is relaying some of those instructions to you. It's not 'set it and forget it'. My Keurig has been used for a year or so. It got clogged once but their telephone support lead me through the process to fix it. Seems fine now. As for the coffee, etc. offered by each... Tassimo originally had rights to the Starbucks brand from Kraft. That's over and Keurig will be offering it soon. (Starbucks evidently thinks that Keurig will win the coffeemaker duel this Christmas and beyond.) To replace that, Tassimo has introduced Gevelia coffees from Sweden. The sticking point appears to be to get a really strong tasty brew. I've read a lot of reviews online written by disappointed Tassimo owners who miss their Starbucks and haven't been able to try the Gevelia. I like the Tassimo creamy iced coffee a lot. I've tried the latte, cappuccino and the Suchard's hot chocolate. They were OK but not spectacular in any way. If you check the Tassimo website, you will find fun recipes for combining their products. I tried brewing the hot chocolate on top of the Gevelia latte and that was yummy. I haven't found any of the tea pods to try yet, but I do like Twinings vx. Keurig's Bigelow's. The Keurig Starbucks pods aren't available yet. I did enjoy their Christmas collection last year. Two friends have disliked the REVV pod flavor. Gloria Jean's Butter Toffee coffee passed by taste test with flying colors. (You can tell that I am not a coffee purist!) I suspect that Keurig will win out, and Tassimo pods will be very hard to find by this time next year. If you really want excellent coffee and tea, stick with the old-fashinoned ways of making them. If you just need a 'hit' for the road, either of these will work fine. Maybe choose by the brands of beverages each offers.

The Author's Dead - Long Live Her Words!
I own many cookbooks. I read them like other people read novels. Josephine Araldo was a very special person. Her recipes reflect her attitudes about leftovers, taste and use of fresh ingredients. Her life was a series of kitchens all over the world. In each one, she made a place for herself and excelled due to hard work, great training and inspired experience. When I read a cookbook, I always use little sticky notes to mark recipes I plan to try. "Sounds from Josephine's Kitchen" is 228 pages long, and I have ten recipes marked... that's just for this week!!! I also own "Cooking with Josephine" and "From a Breton Garden", a vegetable cookbook by Josephine and Robert Reynolds. I like them all and highly recommend them.

Perfect pattern! I've already made two of the styles and they were easy.
