Barely worth the paper it is printed on.
As someone who has had decades of experience with many of the animals found in this book. I find the book to be based upon opinions and not upon any substantial facts. Many of her conclusions are not rooted in any real facts and she fails to back them with documented studies or hands on accounts.
I have raised, worked with, rescued, rehabilitated, and bred, many animals (domestic and exotic) throughout my life. My sister is a D.V.M. and I am vet assistant/tech. I live on a ranch, grew up on a farm and worked with many vets, so I have had the opportunity to learn about animals in many ways.
So I thought that I might just give this book a read and see how it compared to my experiences. After reading it I passed it on to my partner (who could only shake her head in disbelief), And I will be passing it around amongst the Vets that I know to see what they think, but I know that I was no where near impressed, nor was my partner or the vets who have read it so far.
Let’s take another brief look at what she constitutes as easy and then difficult pets.
Easy - Rodents, mice, rats, hamsters, gerbils, chinchillas, guinea pigs/cavies, rabbits, cats, canaries, small finches, budgerigars, lovebirds, cockatiels, conures, small parrots, turtles, snakes, lizards, salamanders, frogs and toads, ants, crickets, earthworms, butterflies and moths, praying mantises, spiders, scorpions, brine shrimp, land hermit crabs
Difficult - dogs, ferrets, horses, ponies, donkeys, sheep, goats, llamas, alpacas, pigs, cows, chickens, guinea, ducks, geese, swans, peacocks (I guess pea hens are classified differently), pheasants, pigeons, doves, koi, bees, southern flying squirrels, degus, duprasi, hedgehogs, sugar gliders, parrots, soft bills, toucans, boas and pythons, green iguanas
Impossible - wild animals and exotics
For example let’s look at marsupials (pg. 154-155). She erroneously states that macropods (Wallabies/wallaroos/kangaroos) are rarely bred in captivity and can only be imported (implied black-market). She also states that few would ever consider keeping a Tasmanian devil. In truth macropods have not been allowed for export by the Australian government for a long time and Tasmanian Devils never have been allowed for export, so trying to smuggle them out of Australia would difficult at best and near impossible normally. The only examples of the Tasmanian devil found outside Australia is in Denmark and that is because one of the Royal family is from Tasmania and those devils were a wedding gift. As for macropods, they are bred in captivity here in the states, quite successfully in fact.
That was just one of her assumptions out of many I found. I am sure that I could find many more. Much of the book reads like an animal rights extremist’s diatribe.
If you are looking for honest information on selecting pets/companion animals, please keep looking because you can definitely find better.
Please research any animals that you may consider and don't rely on only one source of information, as I have found out the hard way that far too many "experts" are quick to spout off opinions and not facts. When you are dealing with animals they will always find many ways to surprise you and you will more often than not throw your own preconceived ideas out the window afterwards. Educate yourself, interact with them before taking them home be patient, and you will find living with your animal companions to be a very rewarding experience. Good luck.

Save your money. This one isn't worth firestarter
This is one of the worst manga drawing books that I have ever reviewed. I wouldn't even recommend this book for beginners and with the so called subject matter definitely not for children. The instructional quality is horrendous.

An essential guide for the Iron Kingdoms world setting
The core game of Dungeons and Dragons has gone through many a world setting, but I would have to admit that this has been one of the best thought out and most original of them. If you are a fan of the steampunk genre, like war torn settings, or enjoy political and social drama then this setting might very well appeal to you. The general flavor can be quite gritty and it has slight resemblances to our own world history, at least in a very basic way. I am sure that others who have read the books can also attest to this. This book is aimed at the characters/people of the Iron Kingdoms. You aren't gonna find many wizards in towers, or barbarian kings, but you will find the potential for building characters with personality and depth.
To try to give you a short run down of the world, the people, and its history would not do this setting justice in the small space alloted for this review. My recommendation would be to just pick up a copy and read it. But I would buy a copy now instead of waiting because for some reason unbeknownst to me the writers/publishers have decided not to publish hardcopy reprints, so finding one in your local gaming store on Ebay, or over the Internet will be your only opportunity to get ahold of this gem.
