Bravery Resisting Cruelty
We know the history; we've heard the stories; but these first person accounts from the diaries of the people who lived in these times of cruel aggression reveal the inhumanity they decide to fight against. With everything taken from them, they decide it is better to risk what life they have left to do whatever they can to thwart the occupiers plans and help rescue their countrymen. I guess because I read the book in 2022, my mind kept comparing what these resisters went through then to what I suppose the Ukrainian people are experiencing today.

Insightful
The inner workings of the newspaper business are related in an informative and interesting way. Because of Car Bernstein's writing style, there are enough details but you are never overwhelmed with them. There are facts and how they relate to history but you are never bored with them. Then there are the personal anecdotes and observations which are humorously recalled about a young person's first journeys from carefree youth to adult responsibilities.

Quality Replacements
