"Forever Free" An eternal proclamation, and one attained through great sacrifice.
After doing a little research, I saw that Eric Forner was a well respected author on the Civil War era, and Reconstruction in particular. The book did not disappoint. Well written - a deep dive into the history of slavery leading up to the Civil War, but not cumbersome. Book is very readable and it is hard to put it down!
I am new to the South and the history of this era has proven very helpful for me to understand how it shaped the South, and continues to affect the thinking of many people here today. Very helpful !
