They Don't Make 'em Like They Used To...
This lens was bought as a stop gap replacement for a Tamron 18-270 VC PZD II that I rejected and sent back as it simply wouldn't focus properly.
Having tested this 20+ year old (!) lens, it is so much better built than the modern equivalents. Yes, the focus motor is a little louder than a USM lens but it is not intrusive and it is also accurate.
The optical quality of the lens is extremely good. At 28-50mm, it gives my 2012 model EF 50mm f1.4 USM lens a run for its money. It is a little softer at 70mm unless stopped down but still entirely adequate. On my EOS 600D, it has an equivalent focal length of 45-112mm which covers most situations in every day use.
For less than £100, this lens has to be my bargain of the year. I can see it being glued to my camera body unless I am doing dedicated portraiture, in which case my 50mm f1.4 will be coming out to play.
All in all an excellent little lens for the money.

Astounding
I bought this book on the back of listening to the Chernobyl podcasts released in support of the recent 5 part TV series as they were mentioned by the writer of that series.
Oh, good lord. The first monologue is from the wife of the fireman who features in the first episode of the series. It gives far more detail about the immediate aftermath of the disaster and the 14 days during which the poor chap died from his radiation exposure.
It's heartbreaking. Captivating. Educating.
Buy this book if you want to understand more fully the situation. I visited Pripyat in March 2018 and this has filled in so many gaps in my understanding. Utterly immersive.

Absolute Little Cracker
Super little lens. Don't be put off by the fact that these lenses don't have a USM focussing motor. The focus is fast and accurate even if it does make a slightly scratchy noise when operating.
The lens is sharp although you'd do better to get it to F5.6-8 for the best results.
I've got a Canon EF 28-70 f3.5-4.5 MkII which is superb but this prime lens out performs it.
Give it a go. For around £100 it is a vast saving on the current list price of a new Canon EF 28mm lens.
