I give it a 10 out od 10
This is the latest biography of this person whom little was known about 40 years ago. Scholarship has been slowly accumulative, but this latest one is surprisingly effective at filling in all the blanks that have vexed us lovers of Delta Blues. A much more complete story is finally provided. I highly recommend it to those interested in Robert Johnson and the story of the blues.

3 Shades of Blue is one of a handful of best jazz histories I have read
If you like reading about jazz history and biography of jazz musicians, this is a 5-star read. This is the 4th book I have read about Miles Davis and his album. It is easily the best. Highly recommended. Miles Davis' album, Kind of Blue is considered by many the most important release in the genre. It is certainly the highest selling. Here's the history behind it as well as comprehensive biographies of the 3 primary geniuses involved, Davis, Coltrane and Evans.
