You will be hooked when you open this book!

This book was also recommended to me by my mentor, retired archivist for the National Archives of the U.K., which was written by his friend and colleague. He didn't recommend it for the benefit of his friend. Trust me. He recommended it because he knows his friend is an excellent author. It's not facts, after facts like the U.S. version of the book (this one is better!), it provides a mixture of British history (The War of Roses), etymology of surnames, where to find records, how to interpret them, and dates records may or may not be available due to multiple reasons. It's a keeper!

Not for the Novice Family Historian

I purchased my hardback copy directly from the U.K. because I believe it is best to go straight to the source! Recommended by a friend who is a retired archivist of The National Archives of the U.K., I have to say that I was overwhelmed. It sat on my shelf for awhile before I felt knowledgeable enough to use it. Ironically, I learned to use correctly by using it incorrectly. Having said that, if you are new to genealogy or family do not rush out to purchase the book. But, if you ready to crossover, then go for it. The book is not inexpensive so make sure you will use it before you buy it!
