Version 2017 with new firmware

The BF-888S is a good, inexpensive UHF radio. This is my second one. The first one is two years old and still works great. When I programmed the channels into the new one, I made the mistake of cloning the old radio Image file to the new one with CHIRP. This resulted in the new radio switching to Chinese voice prompts. This can be remedied by switching channel selector switch to Ch 15, Press / Hold both PTT and MONI, and Power ON. The correct way to program the new radio is to download its image, then enter each channel information to CHIRPs table.

This allows AA batteries to be used for C cells.

I buy AA batteries in bulk, so the price/performance is much better than C batteries. The adapter works well in most applications. The only problem I have found is that the positive button of the AA battery does not extend past the end of the adapter plastic housing far enough, and does not make good contact, if the appliance has plastic by the positive contact. I have used a small piece of tinfoil on the end of the battery as a workaround.
