Much Better Than The VCI Version
Compared to the VCI edition, the Emerald features much better picture balance. This one does suffer from the blacks and darker shades of grey being a bit too dark, but over all, the grey shades are very good.
STAY AWAY FROM THE VCI release of the movie! The VCI edition has absolutely terrible contrast. The blacks and dark greys are just big clumps of indistinct black patches, and the whites are unnaturally hyped and overblown.

Good 3 Disc Collection
If you’re (A) a Tom Selleck fan, and (B) a western movie fan, then you’ll sure cotton to this triple movie collection. As far as this ol’ country boy is concerned, Mr. Selleck is one of the VERY BEST on screen cowboys since John Wayne. Tom Selleck movies are full of good humour, plenty of cowboy justice, and all delivered without constant cussin’ and taking God’s name in vain.
I really like Sam Elliot’s acting too, but his movies remind me more of Clint Eastwood’s - too blasted much unnecessary foul language. John Wayne didn’t need to cuss The Lord constantly in order to be the the BIGGEST western star in history - niether does Tom Selleck.

Ruined the Blacks/Greys - Overblown Whites
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich Best Scrooge version ever! Unfortunately, the VCI so-called remastered/restored version SUCKS! The blacks are way too black, taking many shades of gray with them. The whites are unnaturally overblown. The contrast between dark and light is too extreme; you can't get rid of the problem with TV adjustments. I have this movie in both B&W and Colour from a remastered/restored version from back in the late 90s, very early 2000s. The definition is not as good as this so-called remastered Blu Ray version by VCI, but the grey shades are accurate and the colourized version is very, very good. I also bought a colourized “Remastered” copy of the VCI version on DVD the year before; it suffers the same issues - overblown whites and blacks/greys are all too black.
I also bought a used copy of the “Emerald” version in B&W. It too is much better than the VCI version as regards more accurate shades of grey. The picture quality is quite good (for a 70 year old film on DVD, that is). I would like to find a colourized copy of the Emerald version, is such a thing exists.
