ICHI CONTINUES ON TV
SINCE I OWNED ALL THE ZATOICHI MOVIES WITH SHINTARO KATSU, PLUS A COUPLE MORE WITH OTHER ACTORS, I DECIDED TO COLLECT THE TV SERIES. THESE RUN RIGHT ALONG THE SAME LINES AS THE MOVIES BUT ARE SHORTER AND TO THE POINT DUE TO TV TIME REQUIREMENTS. SOME ARE ACTUAL RETELLING OF THE MOVIES. MANY FAMILIAR FACES SHOW UP AND REGULAR OLD ENEMY, KEI SATO, SHOWS UP AS A GOOD GUY. I SUPPOSE A NON-FAN WOULD JUST GIVE THESE MOVIES AND TV SERIES A 3 STAR AT BEST BUT FOR ME I CANNOT GET ENOUGH MAKING PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THEM FOUR OR FIVE STAR MATERIAL.

win or lose it has to be painful
In the first half of my 80 years I learned that girls are sugar and spice and everything nice. Somewhere along the way that changed. I think if they were allowed to kill each other they would. I often heard women do not like each other but that doesn't mean they have to send each other to the ER. Win or lose, fighting is tough and painful and who needs that unless there is something inside that is driving you and I thought maybe I could get an idea of what that might be. First, I figured just hot attractive girls going for the same guys but they do have to be hot, attractive or much of anything just ready and willing to take a beating. Why? Few have any real skills of a CAT ZINGANO or CYBORG so they must know they are going to take a lot of punishment to be able to dish out that punishment. Maybe a chapter in abnormal psychology would explain it to this old man just amazed on how much women want to hurt each other. GUys have always liked to fight but seem to want to quit at some point but women often have to be stopped by outside force. Not a pretty sight.

ZATOICHI, YEAR 1, TV SERIES, FINALE
This volume represents the last few episodes of their first season on tv. Zatoichi is a blind man in mid-18th century Japan; he does massages to make money but his favorite activity is gambling at which he is an expert to all the tricks using his very adept hearing. He joined the yakuza (Japanese gangsters who run gambling and prostitution in Japan) but is often at odds with them because of the brutal way they treat the rank and file citizen. When he decides to defend the weak against the strong (yakuza, samurai, corrupt officials, etc.) he uses his cane sword. He trained hard with the sword and few have much of a chance against him. He is so good in fact that five yakuza families have put a 500 ryu bounty on his head, which is an enormous sum in those days. In his movies and tv series from 1961 to 2003, Zatoichi has cut down at least 500 bad boys, including from top ranked samurai swordsmen. He sings well, dances some, a good wrestler, protector of the weak especially women and children and a wonderful sense of humor make ZATOICHI a fan favorite.
