a pretty good musical history lesson
This is a CD I got back in the 90s when I was in the Navy. I lost it somewhere along the way and luckily found it again on e-Bay. Listening back to it now, it is a pretty good musical history lesson of the transition from 80's synth-pop/industrial/EBM into 90's techno and 2000's EDM club music.
This mix starts with some light 80's synth-pop (Depeche Mode) then transitions into some edgier industrial stuff (Nitzer Ebb/Front 242), then transitions to 80's alt-rock (The Cult/The Cure), before ending again with some light synth-pop (Modern English - Melt With You).
The DJ in charge of this mix worked at a radio station in Hawaii, hence my original acquisition of the CD during my Pacific Rim deployment back in '94. I would say the way the mix flows demonstrates the DJ's understanding of the alternative music scene in the late 80's / early 90's. Most DJ's may have just limited themselves to hip-hop/r&b, so it's nice to see this unique type of mix.
