The futures bright...or is it?
Fantastic story about how future technology could have a darker side? We are all aware of the advent of self driving cars, and we have mixed opinions on them. This book may just sway your opinion..! But it's a terrific read. Highly recommended, esspecially if you are a car nut or if you have an interest in technology. I am both and this had me totally hooked!

THE TEACHER OF THE COOL SCHOOL
This double Cd is an excellent introduction to the genuis of Miles Davis proving they dont call him "The Picasso of jazz" For nothing
One CD is titled Cool standards and the other titled New Directions
The first cd is 11 tracks which is the best of the mid sixties period, including the classic ALL BLUES,a ll 11mins33secs, plus SO WHAT, MILES and SOMEDAY MY PRINCE WILL COME whcih are the classis Sextet recordings, plus all 16mins of CONCIERTO DE ARANGUEZ, SUMMERTIME, CIRCLE from hsi work with Gill Evans.You also Get some standards form the lkate 1950s which provides a good retrospective of the early years
The second Cd is complete contrast, si from miles electric Rock period of the 70s and 80s featuring Jaco Pastorius, Herbie Hancock etc. Some terrific studff here, all accessible and not so fantic as the later live material. highlights here are the obvious reworking of HUMAN NATURE, TIME AFTER TIME, plus the new material TUTU, SHOUT, JEAN PIERRE, all very funky, and some nice ballads THE DREAM., MYSTERY, but teh highlight is a 5 minute snippet of the landamrk IN A SLIENT WAY which could have influenced dark side of the moon in its structure and mood. A great CD and mcuh better value than most of the Best Of mIles compliations as this not just a cheap rehash of his early prestige recordings , but a great retrospective of his career highlights- if you like jazz, or are just discovering jazz, Buy it!

SHOWBIZ KIDS THE STEELY DAN STORY 1972-80
1 von 1 finden das hilfreich I waited some time to secure this item on ebay as there are obviously many Steely Dan fans out there like me who realise that THIS is the greatest hits collection to have.Its because on this collection yuo get TWO discs, a total of 33 tracks which includes some of their best album tracks, as well as the more obvious hit singles and more common album picks.
So, on the first disc you hear their more rockier side from the first four albums, and on disc two the more sophisticated jazzier side from Royal scam - Gaucho (This is my favourite disc, as I am a jazzer at heart, and these guys mix jazz and rock like nobody else), AND you get the cream of the LA session musicians backing them up - what value! Its such a distinctive sound- it excudes sunshine, highways, chevys, buds, pure LA laid back groove, but with an almost duke ellington sophistication and swing. In fact, from 33 tracks you can hear the change start at track 13, ANY MAJOR DUDE WILL TELL YOU, when the stadium rock declines and the more restrained, thoughtful approach to making music begins. Theres still the "challenging" lyrics, but beneath them there is this fabulous groove and just carries it along, with time and chord changes like nothing else! This is timeless music, that, in a world of indie, world, downloads and instant deletions stands up well, but then pure cream will always rise to the top. These songs are now almost 30 years old and still sound fresh as a daisy. Although both Becker and Fagan have done interesting solo projects since, like the great Lennon- McCartney, nothing comes close to what they achieved together in these 8 years, So, buy this CD, enjoy and then open your ears and mind and tune into some later contemporary jazz and see where that takes you... and remember that Steely Dan would have started that journey. I thank them for that. They can do the same for you. Buy it and Enjoy.
