top quality pcb and amplifier.
Class A amplifiers are the best amplifiers you can get. Yes they are very inefficient and run hot even with no signal present but the detail and low distortion figures are the best you can get. Most commercial amplifiers are built as class AB or class B, some are even class D to get the maximum power efficientcy possible. This comes at a cost of higher crossover and THD distortion. Building a class A amplifier is not expensive but the sound is fantastic. See JLH Hood and Mr. PASS to read more on this matter.

Diy variable voltage psu project
This is great for your first variable 0-30v DC bench PSU project. Just need a 317 or an AC to DC PSU diy kit and a case and you save yourself many £10s and get a very handy PSU. Very handy transformer.
