A Comprehensive and Informative Cookbook
I love to cook and have been doing it all my my life. I've just started collecting the different International cookbooks published by Crown Publishers in the mid-century..The other titles can be seen in the photos of the back cover (if it's shown with a dust jacket).
The index can be better. It has many things under categories (as opposed to everything in alphabetical order). The categories are alphabetized though.
A few of the recipes that have meat say "shortening or butter", and butter, or any dairy, cannot be eaten with meat according to Jewish dietary laws. I haven't gone through the dietary laws section yet, but would hope that it would be clarified there for the sake of those who would want to be strict with such things.
All in all, I love a good cookbook, and I enjoy having this, so I give it 5 stars!

So glad they make these!
These are great for eggs, sauces, emulsifying dressings, and even mixing dry ingredients and spices. I enjoy having them and using them.

Horrifying
I've seen the movie several times, and just had to read the book. Even though the movie captures the book as well a movie could possibly have done, the book gives you a chance to get much deeper into the psyche of the characters more than a movie can do. The introduction about the author is fantastic, and there are three short stories never before in print by the author. They are equally outstanding.
